Weather Policy

  1. Generally, all students are expected to dress for the weather conditions and go outside for recess and lunch.  If students are staying inside for recess, teachers will need to arrange for the supervision of these children.  Children may work in the hallway where they will be supervised by the inside supervisor or up in the office area.
  2. Should there be extreme weather (heavy rain, severe wind, severe cold, students will be allowed to stay in for recess.  Supervisors will be reassigned to provide extra inside supervision and teachers will return to their classrooms. Teachers should review behaviour expectations for inside recesses with their students and provide alternate classroom activities for the students.  Students are not allowed to access technology unless they are supervised by a staff member.
  3. During the lunch hour students will eat lunch as usual.  Outside supervisors and EA staff will monitor the hallways. Alternate school-wide activities may include the use of the gym, library or sensory room for certain groups.
  4. We will not require all students to go outside if the temperature and wind chill is below -20°.  This will be considered an optional recess. Students who do go outside must be properly dressed for the weather conditions.  Students who are inside will be supervised by hallway supervisors.
  5.  If the temperature and wind chill is below -30°, then no students will be allowed to go outside for recess. (In the case of a full inside recess, teachers will supervise in their own classrooms.)  In addition, all other outside activities and field trips will be cancelled.
